Gen Tumukunde evicted from house over 300m rent arrears

Former Presidential aspirant and former Security minister Henry Tumukunde has been evicted from his Sheraton hotel office over non -payment of rent arrears of 300m.

On 6th April Sheraton hotel management together with the LC1 committee of Nile zone led by LC 1 chairperson Paul Nuwagaba evicted Gen. Tumukunde’s office over non-payment of rent arrears.

Tumukunde has been occupying the premises without pay for over four years something the Sheraton Hotel management couldn’t tolerate any longer prompting the eviction.

The LC1 committee which included the defense secretary Nasul Elimu, the area Councillor and speaker of central division one kizza syliva witnessed the eviction exercise.

All items including three computers, 6 office chairs, filling cabinets and 2 tables among others found inside the office were recorded and kept by hotel management.

This is not the first time Tumukunde is involved in a row over money or property. 1n 2005, Henry Tumukunde's acquisition of three square miles of land in Kayunga sparked off a bitter row with residents who accused him of being a land grabber.

He fell out with the current Government after he was removed as Minister of Security in an unexpected cabinet reshuffle in March 2018. Prior to that he had served as the UPDF 4th Division commander, Chief of Military Intelligence and later Director General of the Internal Security Organisation(ISO).

He contested for presidency in 2020 under ‘Renewed Uganda’ pressure group but lost miserably with less than 2% of the total vote count.
