NRM drafting guidelines CEC will follow to choose the Speaker

The National Resistance Movement is currently drafting guidelines the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will follow in selecting candidates for speakership in parliament and district and city councils.

This has been revealed by NRM’s Director Information, Publicity and Public Relations Emmanuel Dombo.

“The NRM Secretariat through the Directorate of Legal Affairs and the NRM Electoral Commission is developing guidelines for the determination and/or election of the Office of the Speaker at National, City and Local Government levels for the consideration by the  Central Executive Committee should need arise,” reads a statement posted on NRM’s official twitter handle.

The NRM Electoral Commission had earlier called on party members that are interested in the speakership and deputy speakership positions of the 11th Parliament to pick interest forms from the NRM electoral commission starting on 5th May.

However, in the new communication, the party has cancelled this arrangement and regrets the inconveniences caused. “We regret any inconveniences the previous information may have caused. We shall keep you updated and posted of any new developments,” Dombo noted.

Two NRM CEC members, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga the current speaker and Hon. Gilbert Olanya her deputy have both expressed interest in the speakership position of the 11th Parliament.

NRM having the majority Members of Parliament will determine who takes the speaker’s seat.
