Metu Zhongtong to assemble buses to ease transport needs in Kampala Metropolitan Area
President Museveni has revealed that government has agreed with Metu Zhongtong Bus Company to manufacture and assemble buses which will help in solving transportation in Kampala and the surroundings.
“I met stakeholders, line ministers, KCCA executives, and leaders of the Metu Zhongtong Bus Company. I am happy to note that we have finalized plans for the company to assemble and manufacture buses to ease transport needs in the greater Kampala Metropolitan Area,” the President tweets.
Metu Zhongtong Bus Company Ltd is a joint venture between the Chinese automotive company Zhongtong and a Ugandan businessman Metu Katabazi, it has its assembling plant in Namanve.
President Yoweri Museveni commissioned Metu-ZhongTong bus-assembling plant based at Namanve in Wakiso District in 2019.
The facility that was started up by Mr. Metu Katabazi, its Chairman and proprietor, started in 2017 with the selling of spare parts of heavy vehicles and later it ventured into the assembling of 67-seater buses in June 2018. The plant later went into a technological partnership with a Chinese bus manufacturing company, ZhongTong.
