Over 70 people killed including 12 US service members in a suspected ISIS blasts outside Kabul airport
At least 12 US service members have been killed, including 11 Marines and one Navy medic, and 15 injured in the two suicide bombing attacks outside Kabul airport Thursday, according to US officials.
The number of American casualties is expected to grow, however, after several more service members were also wounded in the attack, the officials said.
Pentagon press secretary John Kirby confirmed earlier US service members had been killed but did not disclose the number.
“A number of US service members were killed in today’s complex attack at Kabul airport. A number of others are being treated for wounds. We also know that a number of Afghans fell victim to this heinous attack,” he said.
Initial estimates vary but an Afghan health official told the Wall Street Journal that at least 60 Afghans had been killed. At least 120 Afghans were injured, the New York Times reported, also citing a health official
