President Museveni heads to Karamoja over the security situation
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is due in Karamoja to meet the area local leaders over the security situation there.
This has been revealed by Nabusayi Lindah Wamboka the Senior Presidential Press Secretary via twitter. “President Kaguta Museveni is due here in Karamoja to meet local leaders and have a brief on the security situation in the region”, she announced.
Karamoja is currently facing pockets of insecurity resulting from cattle resettling. This prompted the UPDF to launch a disarmament exercise which is currently underway.
In March, the then commander of land forces, Gen. Peter Elwelu announced a second phase of disarmament in Karamoja and asked residents in the Karamoja region to voluntarily surrender all illegal guns in their possession before the army begins a forceful exercise.
Over 64 guns and 1,139 rounds of ammunition have so far from Karimojong cattle rustlers in the last six months.
