Kampala NRM supporters form vigilante group to protect their fellows
A group of National Restance Movement (NRM) body builders locally known as ‘Kanyamas’ led by a one Lwanga Charles commonly known as Master Lee have formed a vigilante group to protect their fellow NRM members from any kind of election violence.
The group was unveiled NRM party national chairman office assistant Mily Babirye Babalanda and Nora Bamutazi at Nakivubo Blue primary school in Kampala.
Speaking at the unveil event, Bamutazi warned the opposition members and supporters that no one will be given a chance to stand in the way for President Museveni’s victory come February 2021.
Several NRM supporters in Kampala Metropolitan area have recently faced violence and intimidation from opposition supporters with some being beaten and one member was nailed in the mouth for singing an NRM song.
This most likely is what has prompted the able-bodied supporters from Kampala to form up a vigilante group to protect their fellows since police cannot be very where to protect them.
Master Lee the leader of the group said that the group will help police and other security agencies to counter any election violence by the opposition politicians and supporters.
Kampala has for several times seen violence during election periods where opposition politicians lead demonstrations which always turn chaotic and many people’s properties are usually destroyed and looted by their supporters.
The formation of such a group has been deemed necessary by several people who have been victims to such violence.
