POLICE APOLOGISES TO EMERITUS JOHN BAPTIST KAGWA AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH OVER SINGO INCIDENT.

The IGP on behalf of the Uganda Police Force has apologised to the Emeritus John Batist Kagwa, the Catholic church and the Mbogo clan over an incident that took place last week where police fired teargas and disrupted a thanks giving ceremony that was being held at Mbogo clan headquarters in Singo.

Today,  a delegation of senior officers led by the Police Chief  Political commissary AIGP Asan Kasingye, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police purposely met the Rtd Emeritus John Baptist Kagwa at his home in Masaka and delivered  apologies to him, his family and the catholic church fraternity, over the disruptions caused during the thanksgiving ceremony of the Mbogo clan at the clan headquarters in Mugulu village, in Singo.

According AIGP Asan Kasingye, the IGP carried out a thorough review and evaluation of the incident, and acknowledges the operational lapse which led to the use of teargas that spread and impacted on the congregation and the public. 

Kasingye revealed that the IGP extended  further apologies in addition to the earlier ones made, regarding this regrettable incident and also applauded  the Bishop for his resilient and steadfast leadership during this disruptive incident by the territorial Police.  

The IGP further requested  that all leaders (including religious leaders) should always involve the Police in programmes such as these  for better coordination during this Covid19 pandemic in order to mitigate the risks of Covid-19 transmission among the entire public. 

The gesture has been welcomed by the Church and entire public as a gesture of peace and accountability of any actions by the force.

A section of opposition politicians had started taking  advantage of the incident to fuel hate and incite Catholics and Baganda against the Police force and entire government.

However both  church and the Kingdom leaders have called for calmness citing that the grievances have been handled in a civilized manner.
