Kyagulanyi betrayed the opposition - Ssemujju



 Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has revealed how opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) and Robert Kyagulanyi sided with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to defeat opposition during the recently concluded speakership elections.

 


Ssemujju who was in the race with NRM’s Jacob Oulanyah and Rebecca Kadaga said that he was very disappointed on seeing members of the NUP side with the latter who is also the 3rd chairperson of the NRM which they seek to unseat.

 

“They went for Kadaga who had numbers, even when she was nominated, they were the ones who were bragging. How do you go for the NRM third chairperson? You even cry when she loses,” Ssemujju wondered.

 

Ssemujju revealed that he wrote to everyone including the NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine whom he asked for a meeting.

 

“But he refused. Instead, he convened a meeting of NUP members on Sunday and told them to vote NRM’s Kadaga,” Ssemujju claimed.

 

He said that NUP should consider working with the opposition and apologize for dealing with NRM and Museveni.

 

“I do not have to assemble a meeting for opposition to vote opposition,” Ssemujju said.

 

Another member of opposition Yusufu Nsibambi who also failed in his bid to become deputy speaker of the house castigate NUP for bringing theatrics to the house to confuse people.

 

“The NRM came up with chits and pens and our opposition people kept receiving these chits and moving out one by one until I followed up one of them who actually came up with a funny motion to support Anite Among,” Nsibambi claimed.

 

“We were in the process of voting and people would come up with funny and comical motions to make it look like they have no business there and this looked funny as opposition,” Nsibambi added.

 

Nsibambi’s claims were directed at Mukono Municipality legislator (NUP) Betty Nambooze who rose up to nominate Moses Ali in a comical way.

 

Speaking about the issue, NUP spokesperson and Nakawa West Member of Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, said they wanted a speaker who would make sure to offer better prospects for the opposition and they realised NRM candidates would do a better job than FDC’s

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert was cited reading a book about Nelson Mandela at the 25th coronation of Buganda King Ronald Mwenda Mutebi ii. Many peoples have taken this as an act of either pretence or disrespect since he clearly showed that he rather reads a book than listen to what was being communicated at the function. As a leader Bobi Wine should do the right thing at the right time but pretending to be reading a Mandela book while the King you subscribe to is giving a speech was not a wise act at all. Government asks Ugandans to strictly follow SOPs as the country battles the second wave of Covid-19

The Minister  for ICT and National Guidance Hon Judith Nabakooba has asked Ugandans to  strictly follow the existing Standard Operating procedure (SOPs) for the country to survive the second deadlier  wave of Covid-19. Nabakooba made the remarks in a press conference held on  May 2.  She said that Uganda is now getting ready for a second wave of COVID-19 and according to the  Ministry of health, all signs indicate that the second wave is already hear and it is going to be more deadly than the first.
