Moroto Central Market nears completion

In May 2018 works commenced for the construction of Moroto Main Market located in the business centre of the town. The market, under the Markets and Agriculture Trade Improvement Project - (MATIP II) will accomodate over 1,000 vendors from both Uganda, and neighbouring Kenya. 

It comprises of 628 stores, 461 lookups, 17 kitchens, 20 butcheries, a clinic, a daycare, banking hall, 7 offices, a community room, two value addition rooms to process grain and a rainwater harvesting tank. 

Other amenities at the market include 20 CCTV cameras, WiFi, ample parking space, access ramps for people with disabilities, public toilets, etc. In the instance of power blackouts, the facility is also connected to solar. 

The contractor of the project is expected to handover the facility to the District Local Government in June 2021.
