Man arrested for spreading fake news about the death of President Museveni



Police in Luwero District have arrested a 25-year-old NUP activist for allegedly circulating falsified news regarding President Museveni’s death that creates panic among the general public.

The man accused has been identified as a one Ssekyondwa Jamilu a resident of Kabuyata Village who was arrested from Kamira Sub County in Luwero District after security tracked his WhatsApp messages. 

Ssekyondwa belongs to the group that has been sharing falsified news content in a group on instant messaging platform WhatsApp and widely circulate their content.


According to the Luweero Acting DPC Mr Patrick Maikula, Ssekyondwa has been detained at the Luwero Police station for further investigation. 

He further said that the other group members are still at large and the suspect could further be charged for offence of Cyber Harassment contrary to section 24(1), (2) (a) of the Computer Misuse Act, 2011.

This comes a few hours after President Museveni directing security to arrest those using social media to spread fake news.
