President Museveni congratulates Iranian President elect
According to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni, on Saturday forwarded a message to President Elect Ebrahim Raisi, congratulating him on his own behalf, as well as the behalf of the Ugandan government and people.
President Museveni has in his message stressed the Iran and Uganda enjoy amicable bilateral ties, and expressed hope that during president-elect Raisi’s tenure bilateral interests will be further deepened and the two nations’ wellbeing will be improved.
Ebrahim Raisi won the 13th Presidential Elections of the Islamic Republic of Iran with more than 18 million votes to become the 8th Iranian president. He will assume office on 3rd August 2021.
Raisi has served in several positions in Iran's judicial system, such as Deputy Chief Justice (2004–2014), Attorney General (2014–2016), and Chief Justice (2019–present). He was also Prosecutor and Deputy Prosecutor of Tehran in the 1980s and 1990s, during which he oversaw the execution of thousands of political dissidents and prisoners. He was Custodian and Chairman of Astan Quds Razavi, a bonyad, from 2016 until 2019. He is a member of Assembly of Experts from South Khorasan Province, being elected for the first time in the 2006 election. He is the son-in-law of Mashhad Friday prayer leader and Grand Imam of Imam Reza shrine, Ahmad Alamolhoda.
