Suspected Terrorist from Kira in Police Custody
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson has confirmed the arrest of a suspected terrorist, after they received information from a reliable source on 09th October 2022 that there was a suspected terrorist living in Kitikifumba zone Kira.
The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old Peter Opil, a resident of Kitikifumba zone, Kira Division in Wakiso District.
Police on Wednesday 12th October, following the tip joined forces with the area LC1, his defense and security team to search the suspect’s house.
The suspect was found in possession of several rounds of ammunition and two rifles.
“The suspect who was living in the house of his brother (name withheld), was found in possession of two SMG rifles (AK-47), one pump action rifle, nine SMG magazines loaded with 270 live bullets and seven locally made pump action bullets,” Onyango said.
The police Spokesperson ( KMP) also revealed that the suspect had in his possession 18 empty locally made pump action gadgets, 1 porch army green in color, 9 bottles of unidentified chemicals, a sachet of Kugina spice(piri piri), and fifteen empty tins suspected to be for making bombs.
The police revealed that other items, the national ID, gold fund microfinance and NSSF cards, driving permit in the names of the suspect were among the things found.
“The suspect is undergoing interrogation so as to get more information on how the weapons in his possession were acquired and who his associates are and where they could be keeping other weapons,” said Onyango.
According to Police, 50-year-old Opil was originally a resident of Moyo District Ishene Central Sub- county Vura Idua Village before he came to stay with his brother in Wakiso.
