NRM heading to a landslide victory as 5 million voters endorse Museveni’s Presidential bid
The Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday 02nd October, received over 5 million signatures from 142 districts, endorsing President Museveni's candidature for the 2021 Presidential election.
The Secretary General Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba was represented at the function by her Deputy, Hon Richard Todwong and the Deputy National Treasurer Hon Jacquline Kyatuheire. Acting EC Secretary Mr. Leonard Mulekwa received the files on behalf of the Commission.
Hon Todwong said the Party had collected over five million signatures from registered voters across the 142 districts of Uganda. "We are submitting early enough to enable the Commission carry out the verification exercise on time", Todwong added.
Speaking on behalf of the Electoral Commission, Mulekwa commended NRM for honouring the National Road map.
EC requires Presidential aspirants to collect at least 100 signatures per district from two thirds of the country’s districts and cities. However NRM has collected signatures from over 28 percent of the registered voters.
The national Electoral Commission registered 17,782,594 voters to participate in the 2021 General Election of which 11, 933,793 are registered members of NRM.
According to these statistics, NRM is in a clear lead and heading to a landslide victory come 2021 with experts arguing that Uganda’s opposition is more divided than ever adding a huge advantage to the ruling NRM
