Nsereko faults Mabike for subjecting himself to NUP’s selection

Kampala central Member of Parliament Hon. Muhammad Nsereko has scoffed Makindye east aspiring MP Mike Mabike for going against a party he has recently joined only because he was denied the opportunity to be the party’s flag bearer in his constituency.

Mabike decided to contest as an independent candidate after the National Unity Platform ( NUP ) denied him the party flag. The NUP vetting committee dropped Mabike  and gave the flag to Nyeko Derick who he accuses of being an NRM agent. The vetting committee’s decision angered Mabike who in retaliation called them incompetent and corrupt and decide to contest as an independent.

While appearing today at NTV’s  ‘ Ebigambo Tebita’ talk show, Nsereko blamed Mabike for leaving his already established party the SDP to join NUP whose candidate selection practices are not democratic.

NUP’s flag bearers’ selection process has been highly criticized by most of its members and the general public since only a handful of individuals on the vetting committee whose competence was not up to the task as most losers allege, selected candidates for a party that believes in people power.

Nsereko wonders why Mabike who intends to serve the masses as a politician subjected himself to a nondemocratic process of a selection rather than an election.

He added that Mabike didn’t have to join NUP in order to work with the opposition since it is clearer he does not believe in the mode of operation and the values of NUP.

In response Mabike said that even though he doesn’t believe in NUP’s vetting committee, he remains a member of the party and a strong supporter of Kyagulanyi Robert. However he believes that the party has some incompetent structure and leaders and that they are likely to crumble like many other opposition political parties in Uganda.

He added that most people who were selected as flag bearers are not fit for the positions giving an example of Joel Ssenyoyi the Party’s spokesperson who he said doesn’t have the credentials to be a member of parliament.
