Plan for a single opposition presidential candidate crumbles, FDC readies candidate
The Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) has today endorsed Patrick Amuriat Oboi as the party’s presidential flag bearer in the 2021 Presidential contest.
Amurait has been endorsed today at Najjanankumbi by the party’s National Council as their Presidential flag bearer after the other contestant Waswa Birigwa withdrew from the race.
The selection of a presidential contestant by the Forum for Democratic Change has diminished the chances of fronting a single Presidential candidate by all opposition Political parties and pressure groups.
There are has been several attempts by various opposition actors to unite behind one candidate who should lead the process of ousting the incumbent President H.E Yoweri Museveni.
However, the efforts have been rendered fruitless especially by the FDC and the National Unity Platform(NUP) who both insist that their candidates should lead the struggle. Both parties have selected presidential candidates with no one willing to step down for the other.
FDC under the People’s government pressure group, had started talks with the people power movement and some little progress had been noticed when the two groups joined hands on the "Twerwaneko" campaign. However FDC suspended all talks with the people power movement after the pressure group joined a new political party NUP and selected a presidential candidate, Hon Kyagulanyi Robert.
