UPDF, Police assure Ugandans of a secure electoral process.
The Uganda Peoples Defence Force and the Uganda Police Force have assured Ugandans that the 2020/21 electoral process will be peaceful and secure.
The CDF Gen. David Muhoozi and the Police Political Commissar AIGP Asan Kasingye who were both appearing on UBC’s talk show ‘behind the headlines’, guaranteed Ugandans that the security agencies are well prepared to protect them throughout the election period.
This follows anticipation of electoral violence by civil society organizations citing mobilization of youth groups especially by opposition political parties, to engage them in several acts of defiance and violence during the election period.
During the talk show, Gen. Muhoozi remarked that the UPDF is ready to perform their duty in protecting Ugandans as well remain nonpartisan throughout the electoral process. The CDF encouraged all actors in the process to play their role in the election process in order for the country to have a peaceful election.
AIGP Kasingye also promised protection of Ugandans during the electoral process, where he revealed that the Uganda Police Force is putting in place efforts to equip the force with the desired capacity to take Ugandans through the exercise safely.
Kasingye urged Politicians and all Ugandans to stay away from acts of violence and violating the law adding that those who will fall culprits will indeed be arrested and prosecuted.
The two security officers reaffirmed that any security person that will involve himself in any kind of misconduct contrary to the standard operating procedures will be charged individually.
