Roy Ssemboga trashes NUP vetting committee, set to contest as an independent

Roy Ssembogo one of the founding members of the people power movement has trashed the National Unity Platform(NUP) vetting committee for denying him the party flag for Kawempe south MP .

This follows the NUP’s vetting committee decision of selecting journalist kazibwe Bashir as the party’s flag bearer for Kawempe south constituency MP race.

Like most of the other members who didn’t make it through, Ssemboga alleges that the verdict by the vetting committee is a baised one.

In a statement published by Ssemboga on Facebook, he trashed the party’s decision and has decided to contest as an independent andidate. ”I would like to let the country know and the people of Kawempe south who are very dear to me that I will be running for the position of Member of Parliament for Kawempe South 2021 to 2026.” The statement reads in parts.

Ssemboga’s decision makes him one of the over 95% NUP flag bearer contestants who have decided to run as independents in the general elections after failing to secure the party’s flag. Most of these have cited corruption, discrimination and tribalism as the cause for their failure to secure the party flag.

The decision by NUP members who failed to attain flags to run as independents has shown the general public that most of the members in the new party are after positions but not the struggle for regime change as they claim.
