‘Tulimu Struggle’: NUP MPs go silent after receiving 200million each

Members of Parliament from the National Unity Platform have gone into total silence after receiving 200 million shillings each from parliament.

The Parliament has given each Member of Parliament UGX 200 million to buy cars to enable them traverse their constituencies.

Several NUP MPs before joining Parliament had told their electorates that they were against the idea of government buying cars for MPs and they were looking forward to rejecting it.

They went ahead to argue that parliament and the entire government should reduce such expenditures.

However, all NUP MPs have received the 200million and are silently enjoying it. This has angered their supporters who are currently facing tough times in the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

The angry supporters are asking what happened to the ‘struggle’ and why the silence when it is time to eat.

Responding to the quarries, NUP’s Mathias Mpuuga who is also the Leader of Opposition in Parliament said that MPs deserve to be facilitated in order to do their work.

But the angry NUP supporters insist that buying cars for MPs is a misplaced priority especially when the country is battling the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic.

They argue that NUP as the alternative government should have fought for the prioritization of the urgent needs other than buying car for the MPs adding that they’re disappointed after seeing their leaders speak the same language with NRM when it is time to eat.
