President Museveni to welcome back the Uganda Olympics team at Kololo grounds

President Museveni will on Wednesday officially welcome back the Country's Olympics team that excelled at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

It was business unusual at Entebbe International Airport when Team Uganda’s olympic medalists returned from Japan on Tuesday afternoon.

The final batch that featured at the 32nd summer games touched base aboard Emirates Airlines at 1:35pm.

The delegation included Joshua Cheptegei (5000m gold and 10,000m silver), Peruth Chemutai (Women’s 3000m steeplechase gold) and Jacob Kiplimo (10,000m bronze).

They were in company of other athletes together with representatives from the government, National Council of Sports (NCS), Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and other officials.

On disembarking from the plane, they were received by the State Minister for Higher Education John Chryestome Muyingo on behalf of the Government and accorded a VIP reception.

The medalists were then granted open roofed cars each and joined the eye-catching procession from the Airport to Kololo Independence grounds.

The first two batches arrived on Thursday and Sunday last week. The entire delegation has been subjected to a mandatory COVID-19 PCR testing before meeting president Museveni for a state Luncheon on Wednesday at mid-day.

Uganda won four medals including 2 gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing as 36th overall and second on the continent behind Kenya .
