In a press statement released on 16th June, 2022, Hon Akello Rose Lilly, Minister in Charge of Ethics and Integrity addressed and gave action to be taken on Students and School Administration in light of the Lubiri High School Video that went viral in the media.
The Minister while addressing the press at Uganda Media Centre informed that the Directorate of Ethics and Integrity in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports, Family Life Network among others will implement a value based program to rebuild ethics and integrity in society but focusing more on Schools.
Hon Akello said that this particular program will provide right information, guidance and counselling to the youth in Primary and Secondary Schools on the prevailing dangers of drug abuse, sexual immorality, pornography and corruption among others.
"On behalf of the government, I would like to strongly condemn any act that demolishes the good image of the government and the Ugandan society at large,” the statement read.
The program is embedded in the National Ethical Values of Uganda that aims at instilling a culture of integrity in Uganda’s Society.
She emphasized the need to have religious institutions, Schools, cultural and traditional institutions take it as their responsibility to inculcate, guide children from home, nursery, primary, secondary and higher Institutions of learning to keep good moral conduct which can groom them to become good citizens of the Country.
The concern of parents and citizens about the Video and stories regarding the incident, is that such acts undermine the youths and students’ academic success and worsen their plight in society.
