Rubirizi District Officials Arrested Over Corruption

Two District officials of Rubirizi Local Government have been arrested over corruption related cases. The arrest was caused by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG).

According to the IGG, the arrested are the District Health Officer Dr. Tibenda Sete and the Assistant Health Educator Ms. Jennifer Kyarimpa.

According to the Deputy IGG, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, the former Chief Administrative Officer of Rubirizi Local Government (the current CAO of Butebo District Local Government) Mr. James Luyimbazi has not yet been arrested as he is still on the run.

Dr. Tibenda together with Kyarimpa have been arrested for causing a financial loss which is contrary to Section 20(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, and for false accounting by a public officer contrary to section 22 of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009 as amended.

Dr. Patricia Achan said that Mr. Luyimbazi and Dr. Tibenda requisitioned for and approved Ugx 82,495,593 meant for health-related activities in June 2020, but were not utilized on these activities causing a loss to the Government.

To Kyarimpa, the Deputy IGG revealed that she obtained Ugx 22,950,000 from the district for health-related activities but instead made fabricated payments and false returns for the money.

The duo is meant to appear before the Anti-Corruption court today 24th June 2022 to take plea in the matter.
