Earlier last week the police spokesperson for Mt Moroto region AIP Mike Longole announced that the changes in the Anti-Stock Theft Unit’s (ASTU)operation uniform were being finalized and yesterday the officers were seen dazzling in their uniforms at the ASTU headquarters in Moroto.

“We wish to inform the general public that the Anti-Stock Theft Unit is in the final process of changing its Operation Uniform,” he said.

According to AIP Longole, the uniform is for easy identification of the force from other people that claim to be security operatives only for them to take part in the cattle theft as well as enabling the people to identify them and run to them in case of any vital information.

Longole advised the public to stay put when they see the new changes and encouraged them to also work hand in hand with them to help curb the vice.

ASTU Commandant Elias Kassirabo

“This is to encourage members of the public not to be alarmed when they notice the change,” he said.

Anti-Stock Theft Unit will directly handle issues of cattle theft that has been go in areas of Kotido , Kaabong , Abim, Moroto, Napak and Nakapiripirit  and other neighboring districts.

Among other reasons, the high demand of milk and meat has been sighted out at the main reason for cattle theft and the government of Uganda has made it a priority to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice.
