Uganda is the most democratic country in the world – President Museveni

President Museveni has stressed that Uganda is the most democratic country in the world for having fair representation of all categories of people in the elective positions.

The president made the remarks while speaking at the celebration of International Day for Older Persons which was held at state house Entebbe today.

He said that Uganda’s system which has all special interested groups given specials posts at several levels of elective leadership from local council to parliament makes it the most democratic country in the world and that he is glad older persons shall be represented in the 11th Parliament as a special interest group.

About the International Day for Older persons, Museveni said that the observance of this day is an opportunity for government and the private sector to reflect on the challenges older persons continue to face and it is also a day to evaluate the measures put in place to improve the welfare of the older persons.

He added that the NRM government has put in place social protection programs which target older persons. For the first time in the history of Uganda, we have a grant for older persons. “Reaching old age alone is not enough. We are committed to creating an environment that guarantees older persons dignified lives through responsive policies and legislation,” Museveni said.
