Candidates who insist on processions risk missing nomination
Several Presidential aspirants are at a risk of missing being nominated if they insist on carrying out political processions on the nomination day.
Even though the Electoral Commission directed that the aspiring candidates should go for nomination with a maximum of 10 people, several presidential aspirants have vowed to carryout processions defying the Covid-19 guidelines of prevention.
The candidates who have revealed that they intend to carryout processions are National Unity Platform flag bearer Kyagulanyi Ssentemu Robert and Forum for Democratic Change flag bearer Patrick Amuriat.
Police has warned that it will arrest any candidate who carries out any form of procession. Yesterday Kampala Metropolitan Police PRO SP Patrick Onyango announced that any presidential aspirant, who makes a procession, contrary to Independent Electoral Commission guidelines of having only 10 people, will be arrested and detained.
This implies that anybody who involves himself into a procession will not only be risking contracting and spreading Covid-19 but also have his or her Presidential aspirant miss being nominated.
Since police has clearly indicated that they will arrest any presidential aspirant who holds a procession, someone who gets arrested is likely to miss the nomination deadline and will end up not nominated.
Therefore, its only right for people to shun these processions since they’re always characterised violence and deaths.
Just waiting for a new uganda
