Nambooze launches attack on Mukono Diocese

Mukono Municipality Member of parliament Hon. Betty Nambooze has launched a verbal attack on Mukono bishop and the entire diocese for taking over the management of Bishop schools that were previous under the management of the municipality.

Speaking to her supporters recently at the National Unity Platform (NUP) party offices in Mukono, Nambooze accused the Bishop of Mukono diocese, James William Ssebaggala, of conniving with her Democratic Party rival and incumbent mayor, George Fred Kagimu, to repossess management of Bishop Schools in order to sell away their land.

The schools include; Bishop East, Central and West primary schools that were established in 1910 in Mukono Central division

Nambooze said that for the Bishop whose stay in Mukono diocese is only limited to 5 years shouldn’t involve himself in the matters of schools that have existed for close to 100 years. She added that, the church is failing the schools and they want them to collapse so that they can sale their land to business men.

Church has condemned Nambooze’s propaganda against it citing that she has failed to work for the people and her only alibi is to attack someone to show them that she is fighting for them.

The Mukono diocesan secretary Canon John Ssebudde has faulted Nambooze for dragging the bishop in her political campaigns indicating that the school’s grades improved when the diocese took over management of Bishop West primary school. The school registered 20 first grades in the last Primary Leaving Examinations.

Canon Ssebudde said the diocese has enough projects to fund its schools and has always managed to pay teachers on time refuting Nambooze’s allegations who said the church asks people every Sunday  to contribute to teachers’ payment. He said there was no sense in maintaining three poor- performing government schools in the same area.

The diocesan lawyer, Ronald Musoke, said they will not look on as Nambooze belittles the diocese and its top leader. He advised the MP to stop spreading false propaganda against the church and its leaders or risk being sued for defamation.

The diocesan provost, Rev Canon Enos Kagodo, wondered why the MP would falsely accuse the bishop of selling church land yet he has spent most of the years of his ministry fighting to reclaim church land in different parts of the diocese.

Many analysist have commented that Nambooze’s political career is at a blink of collapsing that’s why she was forced to abandon DP and join NUP inorder to salvage support on Kyagulanyi’s name.
