NUP argued to follow Covid-19 prevention guidelines for a successful manifesto launch in Mbarara



Lt. Col. James Mwesigye, the Mbarara District Resident Commissioner (RDC) has argued the National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders to following the Covid-19 prevention gudlines if they are looking forward to having a successful manifesto launch.

The National Unity Platform Party said that their Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was set to launch his manifesto from Mbarara on Friday however they rescheduled it to Saturday 7th November 2020.

While speaking to the media on Thursday night, RDC James Mwesigye revealed that the deputy president of Western Uganda, NUP, Jolly Mugisha had officially written to his office and in response the security committee gave them clear guidelines to follow in the manifesto launch exercise.

The guidelines among others include following specific routes to avoid traffic interference and holding a meeting of not more than seventy people.

In related developments, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Mbarara city, Emmy Katera Turyabagyenyi has warned the National Unity Platform against holding their manifesto launch there, before fulfilling all the necessary preventive measures relating to COVID-19.

However, in   a show of defiance, the deputy president of Western Uganda, NUP, Jolly Mugisha described Emmy Turyabagyenyi's words as another tactic by the government to block their manifesto launch.

The National Unity Platform is fond of defying security guidelines which has led to confrontations between the forces and the party members.

The party has on several occasions involved in illegal processions which have risked lives of the public and also caused deaths

The government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has said that security cannot look on when people are defying directives and endangering the country. “If you think you will defy security directives in these elections, you are in for a rude shock,” Opondo said.
