Kenya-Uganda agribusiness symposium kicks off in Mombasa



A delegation of Ugandan ministers and government officials are in Kenya to participate in Kenya-Uganda Agribusiness Symposium and Exhibition.

 

The delegation is led by Francis Mwebesa the minister for trade, industry and cooperatives. The others are John Mulimba the minister of state for foreign affairs in charge of regional cooperation and Evelyn Anite the minister of state for investment among others.   The symposium and exhibition scheduled to take place between September 8 and 9 in Mombasa.

 

The event is taking place at the Pride Inn Hotel, Mombasa. It will have an exhibition that will present an opportunity for the participants to showcase their products and services as well as interact and hear from the most respected leaders in fields such as food safety and standards, agro-technology, pests and diseases and export producers.

 

 

The delegation was received by Dr Hassan Galiwango Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Ambassador Paul Mukumbya Uganda’s Consul General in Mombasa, William Kingi the deputy governor for Mombasa County, Mustafah Ramathan the chairman Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mombasa Chapter.

 

The symposium is taking place under the theme Unlocking the Full Potential of Agri-business to Enhance Export Performance for National Development.

 

It brings together different agribusiness and agricultural stakeholders including farmer associations and cooperatives, financial service providers, government officials, agro-processors and agribusiness entrepreneurs and professionals, agro-input dealers drawn from the East African region.

 

The symposium is an opportunity for Uganda to consolidate its market in Kenya and discover new existing trade opportunities.

Kenya and Uganda are sub-Saharan African, agriculture-based countries that have enjoyed a long-standing cordial diplomatic relationship. Agriculture has and will continue to play a significant role in the development trajectory of both countries.

 

Some of the issues that will be discussed include enhancing agricultural trade between Uganda and Kenya, the interdependence of agro-based industries in Uganda and Kenya and the available opportunities in the agriculture sector in the two countries.

 

There will be sessions on business to business and business to government engagements.

 

These engagements will take place through the lens of the private sector with bias to the sustainable development goals 2030 roadmap, which sets ambitious targets for the agricultural sector and economic development.
