Bobi Wine Calls himself Ngobi to fight the bitter tribal wars in NUP
During the weekly media address held on Monday 18th January, Kyagulanyi started off his speech in Lusoga referring to himself as "Ngobi," a name that was given to him during his recently concluded general elections campaigns
Kyagulanyi’s move amidst increased tribalism sentiments from their supporters is calculated to reduce on the pressure amounted on NUP leadership for multiple tribalism moves against some supporters and leader in the party.
National Unity Platform is on podium over multiple in fights which people within their circles claim have been fueled by sectarianism and tribal wars.
While addressing the Media, Bobi Wine said that he has come as Ngobi but next time he will be a Northerner, Munyoro or any other tribe.
According to Political analysts and commentators, Bobi wine has spoken out due to the pressure from the supporters and people that have been segregated due to their tribe in the process of seeking services from NUP leaders.
With the dying federal fanatics, Bobi Wine's party has the fundamental flaw of having its core membership aimed at seeing this as a chance at reviving Ganda nationalism.
''This NUP looks like the new Kabaka Yekka! My friends in DP, while fearing that NUP would front Baganda candidates against them in the recently concluded elections, they decided to run to kamwokya Headquarters''. said a NUP insider that preferred to be kept anonymous.
NUP party is concentrating only in the Buganda region that for long been considered a ''Buganda party'' by supporters who had hopes of a different political ideas.
''When I reached the NUP offices in Kamwokya, I was asked whether I was asked to ''walk like a Muganda'' and be allowed to enter the gate to access offices over my abducted son who had been at Kityala prison, ''said a woman who claims his son was arrested during campaigns.
More than 500 supporters of the National Unity Platform in Acholi and Lango sub-region defected to the National Resistance Movement-NRM party in just one year.
The defectors were from Nwoya, Amuru, Gulu, Pader, and Kitgum districts in the Acholi sub-region and Lira city.
In Lira city alone, 170 NUP supporters joined the NRM party at Big Wallet Hotel. Defectors from Amuru were 65, Kitgum 38, Pader 50, and 120 from Nwoya district among others. Their reasons were many but among them they claimed that they felt left out by the Party Leadership which made it difficult for non-central dwellers to bring forth their ideas.
The defectors accused their former party leaders of tribalism, corruption, violence, and unfairness.
At the late Sembuya's funeral, Gen Katumba Wamala warned Mr. Wine’s way to Presidency was tribalism which he implied was unfortunately widespread among his NUP supporters.
''In a region where many people aren’t Baganda but live here as nobody can legally ever stop them, it would be counterproductive and suicidal for any aspiring politician or future President to incite those he considers to be his Baganda co-ethnics against the rest of the ethnic communities living here, '' warned Gen Katumba.
The evil of tribalism is dangerous and can lead a country into a spell of blood shading, a thing Ugandans are not yet ready for. NUP supporters and leaders have found themselves in a critical position where they are perpetrators of tribalism a thing that has opened a deep and open wound into the Party’s day to day operations with supporters defecting and the NUP leaders on the defensive to sugarcoat their doings.
