OPINION: Drama and Bad Manners Share a Bed with Zaake
Hon. Francis Zaake, MP Mityana Municipality, has been sent
to the committee of rules, discipline and privileges for bad behavior exhibited
during a parliamentary session, presided over by the Deputy Speaker of
Parliament Hon. Thomas Tayebwa yesterday 29th November 2022.
In a video circulating on social media, Hon. Zaake is seen rising up to seek a resolution on the floor of Parliament on the alleged abduction of former Presidential candidate Joseph Kabuleta. However, the Deputy speaker advised Zaake to follow normal Parliamentary procedure of airing out issues, which Zaake declined to follow. He insisted on speaking and holding the microphone hostage which forced the Deputy speaker to read him the riot act.
“Zaake had missed 10 parliamentary sessions without permission but because he is a brother I let it go, but colleagues, whether you are who or who, I will not allow the house to be blackmailed. So I thought it was time to read him the riot act,” said Deputy Speaker Tayebwa.
According to Hon. Tayebwa, Parliament has rules and procedures and it is not to be used for non-Parliamentary agendas.
“Parliament has rules and procedures it follows and should not be for showbiz, to woo the public. Anyone interested in that should alert them so that they organize for them, since the national theater is around,” Tayebwa stated.
Hon. Zaake is no stranger to the disciplinary Committee in Parliament. His misconduct in the past cost him a seat on the Parliamentary commission. He was voted out of the commission in March for insulting the speaker of Parliament. He seems to find more joy and pride in showcasing his bad manners in parliament than to ably represent his constituency in a manner befitting a member of parliament and representative of the people who elected him.
Zaake, has time over proven not to have his constituents’ mandates at heart and is into politics for fame and to get rich quick.
