Police teargased Zaake’s rowdy supporters not Buganda clan meeting- Enanga
The Uganda Police Force Spokesperson Fred Enanga has clarified that Police didn’t fire teargas at a Buganda clan meeting as it is being portrayed by the media but rather the teargas spread from 500meters away where police was dispersing Zaake’s rowdy supporters.
Last week police fired teargas which interrupted a Buganda clan meeting, an incident that brought some friction between the force and Buganda kingdom and her subjects, fueled by opposition Politicians.
Speaking to NBS TV this morning, Enanga denied that the police teargased a Mityana Buganda clan meeting. He says the police was teargasing Hon Zaake but unfortunately it spread to the clan meeting
“The picture that is being presented is that we used teargas at the venue of the Mityana clan meeting. It is not true. The teargas happened five hundred meters away where Hon. Zaake was holding a presser,” Enanga said.
Enanga added that the teargas came in as a last resort since it is something that spreads he say that it should have been used in the right quantity so as not to impact other communities that’s why the force has apologized to those who were affected.
Yesterday a team of senior Police officers led by AIGP Asan Kasingye the Chief Political Commissar paid an official visit to the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owekitibwa Charles Peter Mayiga at his office in Bulange Mengo to brief him on what happened in Mugulu Ssingo during the thanksgiving ceremony of Omutaka Gajule Kayira Kasibante, the head of the Mbogo Clan, and also to apologised to him, the people of Buganda and members of the Mbogo Clan for the operational lapse and disruption of the ceremony by the territorial police.
The Katikkiro was more appreciative, and the team promised a stronger cooperation between the Buganda Kingdom and the Uganda Police Force.
He called for disciplinary action against the commander that disrupted the clan function.
