Uganda - Congo roads will generate income to construct Uganda roads – Museveni
President Museveni has called on Ugandan politicians to look at the bigger picture behind the construction of the Uganda- Congo roads that will be partially funded by the government of Uganda.
The Agreement signed the government of Uganda to work together with that of DRC in the construction of 3 roads in the DRC has attracted a lot of criticism from the opposition politicians.
In response to the critics, President Museveni who was speaking at the 58th independence celebrations held at state house Entebbe said that, even though Uganda still has some bad roads, the construction of the Uganda - Congo roads will facilitate trade between the two countries which will generate revenue for Uganda to construct many roads and other kinds of infrastructure.
The Governments of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo signed an Agreement to work together on three (3) key road networks connecting the two countries. Uganda will contribute about 20% of the project value while the rest will be met by Congo’s government in an envisioned public-private partnership
These roads are:
Goli-Mahagi-Bunia; Mpondwe-Beni; and Bunagana-Rutshure-Goma. The total length is 1,182KM.
The state of roads in the eastern side of the Democratic Republic of Congo has for a long time hindered the trade between the Uganda and DRC.
The completion of the three roads will boost trade between the two countries creating thousands of jobs to the citizens as well as generating revenue for both governments.
