FDC reinstates the infamous power 10 ahead of 2021 elections

The Forum for  Democratic Change top leadership has revealed that they’re in the process of reviving the infamous Power-10, a group of village mobilizers who are assigned the duties of voluntarily rallying grass-root support for the party, protecting the votes of the party members and involving in defiance activities.

On Friday while addressing party delegates from the 11 districts of Busoga region in Ambercourt gardens, FDC Presidential aspirant Patrick Amuriat said that the party leadership is rooting for the revival of power-10.

The Power-10 was first introduced in 2016 but it was only active in Kampala and major urban centres where it was mainly involved in acts of violence.

During that time, the then Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told journalists that the force got information that raised suspicion about FDC’s recruitment of mobilizers into the Power 10 groups across the country. The police said they had started investigating members of the Forum for Democratic Change for allegedly recruiting people into rebel activity.

Several people were arrested and they confessed how they were planning to cause chaos during the election process.

Amuriat’s announcement has caused fear among the voters who tested the violence cause by power 10 groups. Civil society organizations have called on Ugandans to shun any grouping that are likely to cause electoral violence in the forthcoming elections.
