Bobi Wine stops NUP members from discussing leader of opposition post
A source from the National Unity Platform (NUP) has exclusively revealed to us that the Party President Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine has banned party members from discussing and showing interest in the leader of opposition post.
NUP party, which has 61 MPs in the new Parliament, will officially take over from the FDC as the largest Opposition political party and will therefore appoint the Leader of Opposition.
Last week NUP went into a retreat in Jinja to discuss on who takes the Leader of Opposition post as well as who to back for the speaker of parliament.
At the ended of an inconclusive retreat, Kyagulanyi instituted a committee which will be responsible for handpicking a person NUP will back for the Speakership role.
The members of NUP who attended the retreat were under the impression that the selected committee will be responsible for selecting a people for all the leadership posts the party will be occupying in Parliament.
However, according to a source, the committee will only be responsible for choosing one who the party should back for Speaker. Kyagulanyi remained with all the authority to handpick the Leader of Opposition and other parliamentary committee leaders.
This was confirmed by the NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi who clarified that “The select committees that we put in place are only handling the issue of Speakership races both in Parliament and Local Councils”.
According to our source, Kyagulanyi is hopping to be the leader of opposition himself in case he is elected back into parliament once Ssegirinya is thrown out or he intends to give the position to someone who pays him the highest amount of money.
Members of the NUP have criticized Kyagulanyi’s decision arguing that he is exhibiting greed and dictatorial tendencies.
