Covid-19 vaccination of teachers in Wakiso starts on Monday



Ministry of Health will on Monday  26. April 2021 start vaccinating teachers in Wakiso district against Covid-19.

The Wakiso Education Health Officer, Fredrick Kiyingi Kinobe, has asked all headteachers to mobilise their academic staff for the COVID-19 vaccination exercise that is expected to begin on Monday.

“All teachers in Wakiso district should be vaccinated against COVID-19 since they are handling our children.
“They should know that in future, it is going to be a requirement for one to get services,” Kiyingi said on Wednesday while interacting with headteachers at the Wakiso district headquarters.

Kiyingi reassured that people that the vaccine is safe.
Uganda started vaccinating against COVID-19 on March 10 this year and, as of Saturday , 274,217 people had received their first AstraZeneca jabs.
The acting District Health Officer (DHO), Mathias Lugoloobi, said the exercise will be conducted at 32 points.This includes all the health centres III and IV in the district.

Lugoloobi urged all the leaders to encourage the educators to embrace the exercise.
Observing that there has been a lot of ill talk about the vaccination, the headteacher of Entebbe SS, Ruth Muyinda, advised that all the headteachers should sensitise the teachers about the advantages of getting the vaccine.

Wakiso district, according to Kiyingi, has got 40,000 teachers from the 2,436 nursery, primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the district. He said he expects all of them to turn up for the vaccination exercise.
