Cabinet approves UGX 100,000 for each valunareble household affected by the Covid-19 lockdown



Government will be giving UGX100,000 to each valunareble household whose work has been stopped  by the 42 days lockdown.

The groups targeted  include taxi drivers, boda boda riders, single mothers, youth in slum areas, salon operators, people who load and offload cargo, Teachers in private schools, Bar maids and other people who were dealing in petty businesses before President Museveni announced the second lockdown.

According to the Minister of Gender, the money will be  sent to the beneficiaries using mobile money and the withdraw charges will be met by government. She added that those without registered numbers will receive their relief package in cash from post bank mobile van that will be moving in communities.

Over 501,00 house holds from cities and municipalities across the country have been identified to be beneficiaries of this Covid-19 relief package.

The Minister also revealed that the government is working with Operation Wealth Creation to work out other packages for other valunareble Ugandans whose livelihood has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Finance Hon. Matia Kasaija said that the money will not come from borrowing this time around but from suspension of other government expenses.
