The Minister of Health Dr.Jane Ruth Aceng, will today (Friday) give the country an update on the Covid-19 situation.
According to Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the ministry's spokesperson, minister Ruth Jane Aceng is expected to address the nation on how the government is responding to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The address is expected to be broadcast live on local electronic media channels starting at 11:00 am on Friday.
As of Thursday, the number of people who had recovered from the virus in a 24-hour period in Uganda stood at 590 people (The total number on Wednesday was 579!). This means 53,551 people have now recovered from the virus since March last year when the first cases were recorded in Uganda.
However, hospital admissions have remained high and stood at 1,081 as of Thursday updates. Relatedly, the ministry reported that 38 people succumbed to the virus in a 24-hour period on Wednesday. This means the total number of deaths from covid19 in Uganda is now 1,061. There was also a rise in infections on Thursday from 543 (on Wednesday) to 1057 (on Thursday).
Uganda, Zambia, and Namibia have emerged as countries with the highest rising infections. Tunisia, the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as Rwanda are also among the worst affected countries.
In a recent update, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said the number of cases and deaths in Africa has increased by almost 40% in the latest wave of the virus.
