President Museveni to address nation on Friday – Nabbanja

The Prime Minister Rt. Hon Nabbanja has revealed that President Museveni will address the nation about the covid-19 situation and the lifting of the lockdown on Friday July 30.

Nabbanja said that the earlier communication which indicated that the President will address the nation on Saturday July 31 could have considered the 42 days lockdown to be ending on 31st yet it is ending on 30th.

However Nabbanja directed that if the President doesn’t address the nation on Friday, all lockdown restriction remain in place until the President gives new directives.

The  address comes at a time when the number of people admitted to health facilities suffering from Covid-19 in Uganda dropped, for the third day running, but new infections increased, a Ministry of Health update released on Wednesday has shown.

According to the update, hospital admissions dropped to 620 from 631. On the other hand, new infections increased from 71 to 327, taking the country's total infections since March 2020, when first case was registered in Uganda, to 93,122.

The higher number of positive cases on Wednesday than on Tuesday, however, probably owes to a slightly higher number of Covid-19 tests carried out than previously. For this, for example, a total of 4,345 tests were carried out as compared to 1,614 on Tuesday.

The ministry says a total of 79,804 people (1, 389 in one day) have recovered from the virus while 1,135,916 doses of covid19 vaccines have been administered.

The number of Covid-19 tests so far done in Uganda was 1,458,646 and the positivity rate was 7.5 percent (Tuesday's positivity rate was 6.6 percent).
