NUP’s Only Hope for a Victory Rests in Busongora South Constituency By-Elections

Having lost to the NRM in both Kayunga and Omoro County by-elections, the National Unity Platform party in spirit of solidarity opted to team up with FDC and support their candidate Hon. Attan in the Soroti East by-election.

Although the outcomes did not favor NUP and FDC, the gesture from the NUP side was good, sending signals of unity and solidarity that are needed in our Country.

However, people in FDC whom we expect to be rewarding NUP because of Soroti solidarity by backing its candidates in the Busongora South by-elections are fielding their candidates to serve their own interests.

According to sources, FDC are in negotiations with NUP to withdraw their candidate from the ongoing Busongora South by-election. The reason FDC are giving is that Kasese is their political stronghold, and NUP should step aside to pave way for Hon. Baguma Alozious Kighema.

From this point, one wonders whether NUP as a party does not want to establish its structures country wide just like other political parties FDC inclusive. Maybe our political parties’ leaders need to be reminded about the principles of Multi-party democracy.

NUP was not formed to only be limited on escorting other political parties achieve their political aspirations in Uganda.

NUP just like any other established political party has got vision, mission, Constitution and aspirations that need to be exploited through taking up leadership roles.

NUP Party members’ aspirations should not be suffocated in the name of fake solidarity that serves the interests of few individuals.

NUP should detach itself from FDC and move its own agenda other than silencing its candidates.
