OPINION: When Bobi Wine Speaks Out Of Spite for Government and Exposes His Ignorance

On 30th November 2022, the country experienced a power blackout from 9pm to 10pm that left several areas of Uganda in darkness.

NUP’s President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine took this as an opportunity to once again spread fear and misinformation through his social media pages.  Bobi Wine jumped on his twitter account with claims that it is the Government switching off power to abduct its people.

“As power is off nationwide, be sure the regime is abducting our people in darkness! So remain vigilant, comrades,” the tweet read.

Social media users took to twitter and started picking Bobi Wine’s tweet apart stating that his anti-government stance has become unreasonable.

“Are we at liberty to conclude that Bobi wine has lost sense of direction and does not have a  way forward, what kind of leader speaks anyhow instilling fear in its people, without research and details, he literally blames Government  for everything,” said Nisiima Betesi a twitter user stated.

Other twitter users alleged that Bobi Wine had become unhinged and suggested that he had taken more than his usual daily dose of weed.

“You are nothing but a political joker, pulisipo are you alright up stairs oba you have started smoking weed again,” tweeted Tumuhimbise Ronald.

Some were quick to dismiss Bobi Wine’s political career stating that he has killed it.

“Bobi has killed his wave quicker than we expected,” Tweeted Albert@Bert Family.

However, despite Bobi Wine’s misinformation, according to Uganda Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd (UECTL), the power outage was caused by a Technical glitch on the electricity transmission grid.

“UETCL informs its stakeholders and the general Public that we are experiencing a nationwide blackout. We shall keep you updated as we work on the restoration of power. All inconveniences caused are regretted,” Tweeted UETCL Management.

Uganda has had similar blackouts in the past months, some attributed to the moving islands which blocked the turbines of both Bujagali and Owen falls dam.

Other blackouts are attributed to cases of vandalism of power facilities and lines that have led to serious load shedding.

Earlier this week, a Joint Intelligence led security operation in Kampala led to the arrest of five people and over 40 tons of angle lines used in erecting high voltage power lines have been recovered.

Fear, misinformation, cheap ‘politricks’ and flat out lying have become the order of the day at the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya and one wonders how the Kamwokya based camp that has deceit and fear mongering at the helm of their principles intends on leading the country.
