Soroti Central Market to host close to 4,000 vendors
The construction of the Soroti Central Market commenced in March 2018 under the Market and Agricultural Trade Improvement Program Project with an estimated budget of over Shs23.4bn from both the government and African Development Bank (ADB).
The new modern market is expected to host close to 4000 vendors providing a platform for thousands of transactions and employment opportunities.
The market is planned to use solar power for operating most facilities like cold rooms for storage of fresh foods and vegetables, solar powered water pumping system specifically for the market and lights.
The new market is fitted with 70 CCTV cameras and loud speakers controlled from the office of the chairman of the vendors for easy communication plus translucent iron roofs which will be used to ensure that most of the day activities are done under natural light.
The market has will change Soroti’s landscape and will create opportunities that will improve the quality of life.
