Bobi Wine's supporters terrorize Jinja City with petrol bombs
Jinja city was thrown into panic after a group of youths allaged to be supporters of Hon Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, moving on unregistered motorcycles let off explosives along various streets in the city’s Southern division on Tuesday afternoon.
The police says that the hooded men also dropped leaflets along Main Street, Ghokale road and Obote way before they sped off to an unknown destination.
The leaflets carried messages denouncing President Yoweri Museveni’s election victory. “No swearing-in. We need our victory,” read the printed statement on the leaflets. The youths also dropped plastic bottles filled with petrol, packed together with old tyres in sacks.
Security is currently hunting down the criminals and they will be charged with terrorism.
This comes a few hours after Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF announcing that there are groups of individuals plotting violence, threatening to disrupt the 12th May ceremony as President Museveni swears in for a new term
Addressing journalists at Naguru police headquarters yesterday, UPDF spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso said they have got credible information about a section of Ugandans planning to disrupt the swearing in functions of the elected President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“I would like to bring to your attention the continued hate speech by a section of individuals through help of foreigners, they think they can stop the swearing-in of President Museveni,” said Byekwaso.
She has revealed that security agencies have confiscated posters to be used in the protests with words of hate speech that incite violence to the members of public.
“The posters circulating in the city have words like, “Tajja Kulayila Nomuganda Afugeko,” “Nga 1st May, Kusiiba Tugobe Abahiima”, Byekwaso said.
She warned that anyone planning this will be dealt with accordingly.
