Uganda's opposition is in disarray says Munyagwa

The outgoing Kawempe South Member of Parliament  who is also the chairperson of the committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa has said that Uganda's opposition is in disarray to cause any political change in the country.

Munyagwa who was appearing on NBS's talk show 'the eagle' , said that since 1996, this is the weakest opposition President Museveni has ever faced due to the disorganization in the opposition political parties.

He added that the National Unity Platform who will be  the leaders of opposition in the next parliament will not be any better than the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) the Party they are taking over from.

Munyagwa is disappointed that opposition political parties are pushing for individual interests instead of unifying under one common cause. " each political party is carrying out it's own retreat now, NUP was in Jinja, FDC in Namugongo. this is not taking the opposition anywhere," he said.

Munyagwa's comments follow the division in NUP and FDC over the  speakership position, parliamentary committees and the shadow cabinet.

Several members of the FDC have decided to support NRM candidates Rebecca Kadaga and Olanya for the speakership position even though FDC has a candidate in the same race something which has left the party deeply divided.

NUP held a retreat in Jinja last month to choose the Leader of Opposition and who to back for the speakership race. However the  party left the retreat undecided and in a bitter split with some members' hopes of taking certain positions shattered.
