Parliament honours Kadaga for distinguished service
Parliament honoured The minister of East African Affairs and former Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga for her distinguished service as Speaker of the 10th Parliament.
The parliament administration presented an award to Kadaga as a sign of appreciation for her service to the country and the institution of Parliament.
According to Jane Kibirge, Clerk to Parliament, the award to Kadaga is a sign of appreciation by Parliament, for her work and steering Parliament for the last ten years as Speaker.
Kadaga, is pushing for the establishment of the Central East African Bank, for increased integration of the East African Community (EAC).
According to Kadaga, she is currently engaged in finding land for the establishment of the Bank, for the monetary union of the East Africans.
“The East African community is based on a treaty, there are four pillars the customs union, the common market, the monetary union, and eventually the Political Federation. Right now, I am engaged in identifying land, to host the East African central bank, that is what I am engaged on,” Kadaga said.
She noted that as other stakeholders in the EAC integration concentrate on other pillars such as Political Federation, which she said is being pushed by Amos Wako, the former Attorney General of Kenya and Justice Benjamin Odoki, the former Chief Justice of Uganda, hers will be focused on a single currency for the East Africans.
