Deputy Speaker cautions MPs not topoliticise Masaka killings

The deputy speaker of parliament, Anita Among has appealed to Members of Parliament to debate the Masaka killings without politicising or trivialising issues.

Reports of people being murdered mysteriously in Masaka have startled the public.

Last week, a team from the Criminal Investigations Directorate was dispatched to Masaka and Lwengo to work with other intelligence organs to track down the suspected panga-wielding gangs destabilising the area.

However, during Tuesday’s session, Among warned MPs against engaging in emotional debates and instead focus on finding solutions.

“The events in Masaka are very sad and we must work together to find a solution to it without politicizing it. We have faced a similar situation before and have overcome it. This too should be dealt with,” she said.

“We regret the unfortunate brutal killings and as Parliament of Uganda we send our condolences to the people of Masaka and promise to do all it takes to find a solution to the problem,” she added.

The police spokesperson, Fred Enanga on Monday disclosed that two cells have since been dismantled in Lwengo and 15 arrests have been made so far.
