Bobi Wine’s wooing of “The West” Backfires
Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has been wooing the west for a long time since 2017, a strategy he is trying to use for financial gain and to oust the NRM government from power.
While appearing at the European Union Parliament on 08th February 2022, Kyagulanyi he called upon the west to cut funding to Uganda, because President Museveni had become dictatorial as he described him.
Chris Baryomunsi responding to the statement made by Kyagulanyi at the EU parliament called Kyagulanyis actions unpatriotic and selfish.
“It is a shame that Bobi is telling international community to cut aid to Uganda, it means you want Ugandans to suffer. It is selfish and a person who wants to be a leader cannot talk like that,” Baryomunisi said.
After Hon Kyagulanyi’s utterances in the EU parliament, EU and US envoys came to Uganda concerning the allegations levied by the failed presidential candidate.
The envoys sent found no human rights violations by the president and even commended him on his zero tolerance to human rights abuses.
Kenneth Roth, the Human rights watch Executive director commended the President for his “Zero tolerance” against torture and human rights violations committed by armed forces.
“This is a signal that you are doing a good job,” Roth said about President Museveni.
Bobi Wine’s utterances and blatant lies did not faze the European Union as it released EUR 3 Million towards world food Programme on 19 /March 2022. On 25th July, 2022, Uganda received another additional Eur 6million towards the same cause.
On 18th/March/ 2022, The US released a total of USD950 million towards health and development assistance, clearly giving a deaf ear to Bobi Wine’s false accusations.
The United States has remained a reliable partner of Uganda where they work hand in hand in promoting stability in East and central Africa in combating terror, particularly through African Union Mission in Somalia.
Hon. Kyagulanyi having failed to court the European Union and the US changed targets and on 06 /July/2022, with his team met Mr. Thijs Berman Executive Director NIMD, the funders and facilitators of IPOD. Bobi Wine went with the intention of convincing NIMD to give him funds directly instead of through the party.
Mr. Thijs told Bobi Wine it wasn’t possible to fund an individual and advised him to join IPOD if he wanted to benefit financially.
The steps and actions taken by EU, US and IPOD, after Hon. Kyagulanyi’s unfounded out busts did not bear fruit as the US, EU AND IPOD continued to fund Uganda’s developmental programs.
Bobi Wines bid to turn the rest of the world against Uganda’s wellbeing indicates that the amateur politician acts out of impulse and not from a well-researched and analyzed angle.
His sole purpose is Regime change and taking over power, how he does it, who gets hurt in the process is secondary.
