FDC and NUP in Heated Battle over Busongora South Representation

FDC and NUP were all glitz and glamour as they walked hand in hand in the recent Soroti by- election like all newlyweds. The NUP camp vowed to support and also campaign for the FDC candidate Moses Attan who lost to NRM’s Edmund Ariko.

On face value, everything looked to be going smoothly as it seemed that the two Opposition parties were working out of goodwill to oust NRM.

However, Jordan Mubangizi, one of the mobilizers from NUP stated that there is already trouble in paradise even before the honeymoon ends.

“NUP and FDC are already clashing even before our honeymoon begins. Both FDC and NUP leaders have failed to agree on a single candidate for Busongora South by election,” Jordan stated.

FDC fielded Aloysius Baguma Kighema and Mbaju Jackson Kathika will represent NUP.

The two parties are accusing each other of greed and hypocrisy where the FDC camp is claiming that NUP had vowed to support them like they did in Soroti and they should therefore keep their promise in Busongora South. However, NUP is saying that FDC must not be so selfish and that it is their (NUP) turn to be supported by FDC.

FDC is also accusing NUP of poaching their candidate Mbaju, who has been crossing from party to party.

When questioned as to why he left FDC, Mbaju Jackson said he was tired of the in-fighting in FDC.

“I left that party because of bickering and the rot on the inside,” Mbaju said.

The move has left the FDC divided and thus most of them have decided to join a more organized NRM.

All the bickering and violence between NUP and FDC has left the voters in Busongora wondering what has happened to the agreement that was signed and what was its intended purpose

Some of the FDC and NUP youths groups have crossed to the NRM youth groups like the UB40 and Yellow Power claiming that they cannot be part of the confusion and disorganization with in the opposition parties and have therefore vowed rally behind the NRM’s Gideon Mujungu.

The new NRM party members were welcomed by Busongora South NRM mobilizer Judith Muhindo.

“We are happy to receive these new fine ladies and gentlemen, they are welcome to the winning party,” Muhindo said.
